                • On April 4, India recorded 103,796 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) breaching the peak of 99,181 seen in a single day during the first wave of the pandemic last September. PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on April 4 and asked states to take the necessary steps and impose required restrictions to contain the outbreak. India’s positivity rate as on April 3 (the last day for which countrywide testing data was available) was at 8%, after having risen consistently – exactly a fortnight ago, on March 20, this number was 3.9%. At its worst, during the first wave of the outbreak, India recorded 93,617 cases a day on a 7-day average. On April 4, this number was 78,385.
